It is anticipated that the Government will give permission for Places of Worship to reopen at its next update on the 4th July, but there is a lot for churches and centres to consider before they do so. There is not only the prospect of having the premises deep cleaned before reopening, which could cost anything up to £900, but also ensuring the premises are cleaned after each use.
We also have to consider how many people we can accommodate at any one time, in line with social distancing, and how we deal with a situation where more than that number may turn up for a service. As a public Place of Worship we cannot say members only or pre-booking only as many of our attendees simply would not be able to do this.
We have to consider how many of the mediums that we have booked for the rest of this year will be willing to travel and work publicly, and how to protect our committee and helpers. Potentially if anyone attending the centre were to test positive for Covid-19 under the test and trace service we could find ourselves having to self-isolate for 14 days.
These are just examples of some of the considerations that we have make decisions on before we can reopen so we hope you can appreciate that it may not be a quick process. If you are running your own centre or simply wish to know more we would suggest that you look at a very useful document that the SNU has produced which can be found at https://www.snu.org.uk/news/re-opening-information-for-snu-churches-centres
In the meantime please keep safe and be assured that we will endeavour to open as soon as possible but public safety is our priority.
Billericay Spiritualist Centre has existed since 1945, starting off as Billericay Spiritualist Church in rented rooms above The Blue Boar in the High Street. Today the Centre occupies its own building in West Park Crescent in Billericay.
The Centre has a demonstration of mediumship every Tuesday evening from 8-9pm.
On the first Sunday of each month, from 6.30-8pm, there is a Divine Service which includes an address, music, and a demonstration of mediumship.
The Centre has a number of registered healers who are trained and insured through their affiliation to the Spiritualist National Union.
Healing is held every Monday evening (apart from Bank Holidays) at the Scout Hut (behind the fire station) in Laindon Road, Billericay.
OBITUARY FOR ELAINE BRAME
Elaine was a spiritualist medium, healer and teacher for the majority of her adult life. Together with her husband Stephen she helped to run Billericay Spiritualist Centre for most of the 1990’s acting as treasurer and secretary for many years. She was made an Honorary Vice-President in recognition of her years of service to the Centre.
Elaine not only supported Billericay but other churches in East London whilst serving as part of the SNU East London District Council. Her knowledge of procedure for both church administration and healing was outstanding and on many occasions she was able to provide advice and guidance to us all.
Elaine sadly passed to the higher realms on the 21st January 2020 following a short illness. Her funeral will be at 1430 on Monday 17th February at Chelmsford Crematorium and after at Bardswell Social Club, Bardswell Close, Brentwood.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Elaine as she progresses in the spirit realms and our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Stephen and her children Chris, Richard and Antoinette and family.
